285.8-18 Drawstring Skirt with Pleated Front, mid 1880s |
This easy-to-sew skirt is a lovely addition to your 1880s wardrobe or your contemporary one. With the flat front with pleated sides, and adjustable back panels with the period drawstrings, makes this a flexible skirt. For those who want an updated look, the use of elastic in the back waistband also makes for an adjustable fit. The original skirt also had one pocket. The pattern includes three period pocket styles.
This pattern can also be used to make a petticoat to wear under an outer skirt. Just leave off the faced hem and hem binding and add several tucks and/or lace.
Works well in lightweight and drapable fabrics such a fine wale corduroy, wool, linen, and cotton.
