204 Cage Crinoline Booklet
This cage crinoline is believed to have belonged to Mary Virginia Childs Anderson (1833-1912), daughter of Brigadier General Thomas Childs of Massachusetts. She married Dr. William Wallace Anderson, II on December 27, 1855 at St. James Church in Wilmington, North Carolina. All that remains of her wedding attire is the bodice which was modified into a later style and several pieces of the pearl jewelry.
The cage crinoline may have been a part of her wedding ensemble. If that were so, she would been on the cutting edge of fashion as the cage crinoline was introduced in Europe in the spring of 1855. Then again she may have purchased it at a later date. There is no oral or written family history concerning this item of clothing.
This is only an instruction booklet. No pattern available. It was written to accompany a hoop kit, so there are step by step instructions.
